About the Scandinavian Sarcoma Group

  1. The Scandinavian Sarcoma Group (SSG) was constituted in 1979 and is composed of oncologists (pediatric and adult), surgeons, radiologists, pathologists and tumor biologists from the Nordic countries. The aim of the SSG is to uphold and improve the quality of diagnostics, treatment and care of sarcoma patients by sharing information and education, clinical studies and patient registers. The SSG maintains two patient registers, i. e., the SSG Register of Bone and Soft Tissue Sarcoma Patients and the SSG Metastases Register. It is financed by grants.
  2. The SSG is open to all specialists in the Nordic countries interested in sarcoma and has no membership fee.
  3. The SSG holds meetings once yearly, subcommittee meetings in December, yearly and the General Assembly in the Spring every other year. Notes of the meetings are kept by the SSG secretary and chairmen of the subcommittees.
  4. The SSG Board consists of 3 Chairmen, 2 Vice-Chairmen, 1 Secretary, 1 Vice-Secretary and the respective chairmen of the 8 subcommittees (SSG Central Register, Epidemiology, Diagnostic Radiology and Nuclear Medicine, Morphology and Tumor Biology, Surgery, Chemotherapy, Radiotherapy and SSG Metastases Register).
  5. The Chairmen and secretaries are elected by the General Assembly for 5 years.
  6. The members of the Subcommittees elect their own chairmen.
  7. The SSG office is located in Lund and is responsible for the preparation of meetings, keeping the Register of SSG members, and for the applications and details concerning grants.
  8. The publication policy for SSG follows the Vancover rules for publication. The SSG must be mentioned in the title of all publications based on the SSG Registers and SSG treatment protocols. When a project is expected to include data from the register or a treatment protocol, the author and co-authors should submit an outline of the project to the SSG´s board for the board´s review. The board will then decide on the necessary assistance needed from the SSG´s secretariat, and inform the remaining SSG members.
